Levelling and smoothing compounds create flat, smooth and level subfloors. When installing floor coverings such as LVT, sheet vinyl or tiles, correct floor preparation is essential, as it helps ensure full adhesion, supports the long-term performance of the installed flooring and provides great aesthetics.

Choosing the correct levelling and smoothing compound for your project will depend on several factors, including the type and condition of the subfloor, the required build up depth, and the required drying and fit-on times. Ultra-rapid and rapid-setting compounds are often used where fast turnaround is required, allowing floor coverings to be installed in a matter of hours. These are commonly used in commercial environments and refurbishment projects where downtime needs to be minimised.

For substrates that are subject to movement, such as timber floors or heated screeds, flexible smoothing compounds are required to accommodate the associated minor substrate movement. Some of the flexible compounds are also fibre reinforced. These provide additional flexural strength and offer even more durability.
